YOUR MEMBERSHIP NEXT YEAR COULD BE FREE!!!
Okeechobee Main Street will kick off the New Year with a Membership Drive Contest.  Those who wish to participate will be given Okeechobee Main Street brochure applications.  You will stamp your business name on the brochure and give it to patrons who come into your business. When they are returned to the Main Street office by the patron for membership the patron will be given a ticket for a chance to win a monthly drawing for a prize equivalent to $50.00, they will also be given a membership decal that has the Main Street logo and the words “MEMBER – I SHOP OKEECHOBEE on it.  The Business Member or Member that brings in the most new members will receive the following year’s membership free; the free membership prize will be equivalent to the current year’s membership.

The Okeechobee County Fair has a 10 day pass on sale for the 2009 County Fair for only $30.00!  The 2009 Okeechobee County Fair will be held March 13th through the 22nd.  Passes can be purchased at Okeechobee Main Street 111 NE 2nd Avenue, call 357-6246 or at Syble’s Flowers and Gifts 119 S. Parrott Avenue, call 763-2225.  This year’s fair will include the 2nd annual Miss Okeechobee County Fair Beauty Pageant open to girls age 15 – 19, the Seminole Heritage Show, the Okeechobee Cattleman’s Spring Rodeo, Okeechobee Idol, Bike Show, Livestock Show, Pig Races, Blue Grass Music, A Demolition Derby and lots of food and rides on the midway.

Mark your calendars, Okeechobee Main Street’s first mixer of 2009 will be held on
Tuesday, January 13th.
The January mixer will be hosted by Raulerson Hospital and will be held at their Company Care Office 1930 Hwy 441 North in the blue top building just north of the hospital.  There will be refreshments, door prizes and a new beginning for the Mega 50/50 raffle that will be drawn in December 2009. This is a great networking opportunity for all.

The Governing Board of the South Florida Water Management District will hold a public hearing on proposed year round landscape irrigation conservation measures on Thursday January 15th, 9:00am at the District Office on Gun Club Road in West Palm Beach.

Okeechobee Main Street’s Top of the Lake BBQ Affair will be held
 Friday and Saturday, January 23rd and 24th at the Agri-Civic Center on Hwy 70 East.

Raulerson Hospital will present a “Ladies Health Day” luncheon on January 20th from 12 noon to 1:00 at Indian River State College in the Raulerson Hospital Auditorium. Guest speakers will be Raulerson Hospital staff physicians James Bradfield M.D. Board Certified Gynecologist, Albert Bravo M.D., Board Certified Gastroenterologist and Internal Medicine and Philip Moyer M.D., Board Certified General/Vascular Surgeon and Diplomate American Board of General Surgery.  This seminar will cover many of the new gynecology and health care services that are now being offered for women of all ages and the new “State of the Art” surgical procedures that are opening up regularly at the hospital. The Okeechobee County Board of Realtors will be having their Annual Fun Shoot on Saturday, January 24th at Quail Creek Plantation.  Monies raised goes towards scholarships for local students.  For more information and to register call Jim Fowler at 863-634-4497.

The Okeechobee Community Theatre will hold open auditions for acting roles in its upcoming production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” in January.  There are both speaking and non-speaking parts for white and African-American performers, with no previous acting experience necessary.  There are also parts for three children of elementary to middle school age. Auditions for adults will be on Monday and Tuesday evenings, January 5th and 6th at 7:00pm.  Children’s Auditions will be on Wednesday, January 8th at 7pm.  Auditions will be held at the theatre on SW 2nd Avenue, one block behind the Golden Corral Restaurant.  For more information call 863-763-1307.

The 2009 Battle of Okeechobee Re-Enactment will take place at the Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park on January 31st and February 1st from 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m.  Mark your calendars and please join the Okeechobee Battlefield Friends, Inc. for the commemoration of the largest and fiercest battle in the Seminole wars fought on Christmas Day 1837. Seacoast National Bank will host the 7th Annual Big Lake Bass Fishing Tournament to benefit the March of Dimes on Saturday, January 31st, at Okee-Tanti Marina. The tournament will begin at safe light with weigh in at 3:00pm.
